The Quilted Garden offers custom quilting by Catherine Hanna, the Urban Quilter, who has professionally quilted well over 3,000 quilts for customers. She has accumulated over 15,000 hours of professional machine quilting time during the past 10 years.
An APQS Millennium professional long arm quilting machine is used for pantograph and custom design work. Catherine also uses a standard extended base machine for specific decorative and intricate detail work. She has received quilt tops from as far away as Nova Scotia across Canada to the city of Queen Charlotte and from quilters in the Gulf Islands. Some amazing quilts have been sent back to their owners and many of these quilts have won ribbons at quilt shows! Attention to detail and the fastest turn around in the lower mainland (1-2 weeks!) has put her on the map.
Batting up to 124" wide and backing fabrics up to 110" wide are always in stock.

Long Arm Machine Quilting Information
The following information is a guideline to help you understand how to determine the cost of quilting. Consultations are free!
- Pantograph or Edge-to-Edge Quilting
A single pattern is used over the entire quilt top from left to right in a medium to large free form design. Pricing is based on complexity of design. Pricing: $.0175 - $.03 per sq.inch. ($40.00 minimum) Specialty threads are extra.
- Borders & Motifs
Quilting in the borders, sashings, motifs and/or alternate blocks. Pricing: $0.03 per sq. inch ($50.00 minimum) Specialty threads are extra.
- Custom Quilting
Heavy quilting with many different designs: stippling, grid work, echo quilting, stitch in the ditch, custom designed patterns and artistic interpretive quilting using a variety of specialty threads throughout and/or any variation of these. Pricing: $0.05 per sq.inch plus cost of specialty threads ($75.00 minimum)
- Binding
I will machine stitch a French double fold binding with mitered corners to allow you to turn and hand stitch to the back of your quilt. Hand finishing is also an option. A fine topstitch finish is also available. Bindings are snug and straight! Pricing: $.10/inch ready to go. $0.15/inch from scratch. $0.10/inch extra to hand finish. Topstitch finish add an additional $0.05/inch.
**Please note that the above prices do not include the cost of batting, backing or binding fabric. You may provide your own or you can purchase these items from The Quilted Garden.
Batting and backing must be at least 4 inches longer and wider (2 inches extra on all sides) than the finished quilt top. Seams must be properly pressed and stray threads trimmed. All seams must be secure and a line of stay stitching sewn around the edge of the quilt top if there are seams at the edges and no borders. If you piece the backing, use ½ inch seams and press them open flat.
Packaging, insurance and shipping not included. All pricing is subject to HST. We reserve the right to refuse work due to improper attention to quilt preparation as per the above.
